Environmental performance

To minimize the impact on the environment brought about by the consumption of papers in the conduct of our business, various measures have been introduced over the years:

  • Reducing paper consumption through the introduction of electronic systems;

  • Replacing paper products by CD-ROMs, e.g. Street Index and NT Lot/Address Cross Reference Table; and

  • Economizing through wider use of the LAN, GOA and e-Leave systems for the purposes of communication and information storage.

    The overall paper consumption in 2005/06 maintained at a similar level as in 2004/05. We expect that consumption will decline with the increasing use of the electronic services available under IRIS by customers and the replacement of printed copies of reports by softcopies of reports.

    We will continue to reduce consumption of energy and other resources through:

  • Energy-efficient retrofits and environmental management measures; and

  • Observing green housekeeping rules and following good environmental practices, such as encouraging the use of staircases instead of lifts, to reuse, reduce and recycle waste materials, and to switch off lights and electrical appliances when not in use.

    The Controlling Officer's Environmental Report 2005 is available from the Land Registry's website.
